Comprehensive Readout: One Device for All Your Field Data

Comprehensive Readout

Reading multiple geotechnical sensors on a busy construction site usually means juggling several handheld devices. One for the inclinometer, another for the piezometer, and maybe a third for the strain gauge. It’s a hassle that eats up time and risks data mix-ups. Kingmach tackled this by engineering a single unit that pulls together readings from vibrating wire, resistive, and thermocouple sensors, among others. The idea isn’t just fewer boxes to carry—it’s about cutting down on transcription errors and letting engineers focus on what the numbers actually mean. With a screen that stays readable even in direct sun and memory enough for weeks of unattended logging, the instrument fits right into daily site work without demanding a training course to operate.

Technical Detail

Configured around process stability, mold life, and long-term uptime.

Kingmach’s comprehensive readout instruments are built for field conditions where simplicity and reliability matter more than flashy features. Each unit supports a broad mix of common geotechnical sensors—vibrating wire, resistive strain gauge, thermistor, and 4–20 mA transmitters—so one device replaces the usual handful. The display prioritizes clarity: a transflective LCD shows reading values, sensor type, and battery status at a glance, sharp enough in bright light without a shade hood. Logged data stores in non-volatile memory with room for several thousand time-stamped records, and can transfer via USB or optional Bluetooth to a laptop or tablet. There’s no proprietary file format lock-in; exports come out as clean CSV files ready for any analysis software. Because every project brings its own quirks, Kingmach offers customization on sensor excitation ranges, data sampling intervals, and even enclosure markings to match your site labeling. The housing meets IP65, so occasional rain or dust doesn’t stop work, and field-replaceable AA batteries mean you’re never stuck waiting for a recharge. Training and support are available in multiple languages through Kingmach’s global distribution network, and spare parts inventory is kept in key regions to minimize downtime. This isn’t a laboratory instrument dressed up in a rugged case—it’s designed from the ground up for soil nails, inclinometer casings, and dam abutments.

FAQ

Common technical questions

Which sensor types does the comprehensive readout support out of the box?

It handles vibrating wire sensors (both frequency and temperature channels), resistive strain gauges, thermistors, and standard 4–20 mA transmitters. If you have a less common sensor, the excitation and input ranges can be adjusted through a custom request during ordering.

How do I get the logged data off the device?

Plug a USB cable into a PC and it mounts as a removable drive with timestamped CSV files. An optional Bluetooth module lets you pull data wirelessly to a tablet or phone without opening the connector cover in dusty conditions.

Can the battery last through a full week of monitoring without changing?

In typical use with the backlight on only when needed and continuous logging every 10 minutes, three AA lithium cells easily deliver 7–10 days. Alkaline batteries work too but will give shorter life; we include lithium cells in every shipment for that reason.

We need the device labeled with our project codes and maybe a different connector layout. Is that possible?

Yes, this is one area where Kingmach’s in-house manufacturing helps. We can laser-etch your company logo and site codes on the front panel, fit different sensor connectors if you provide specs, and preload a custom sensor library so your field crew doesn’t have to configure anything.

Is special training required for a technician who only knows basic data loggers?

The interface is straightforward: power on, select sensor channel, and press Read. No menus to navigate or scripts to load. Most users get comfortable after a 10-minute walk-through, and we supply a quick-start card that stays in the soft case. For teams who want deeper familiarization, we can arrange a remote session with one of our application engineers.
